8th March is celebrated as International Women’s Day every year. It is a day to celebrate Womanhood, empowerment to women and equality.

Do you know why this day is celebrated?

International Women’s Day was first celebrated in the year 1917 by Russian Women when they got suffrage (Right to vote). This day is now celebrated worldwide as the day of women’s empowerment in Man’s world. This day women’s got their right to vote their values were now as important as Man.  

This Women’s Day we introduce you to some spectacular Amdavadi Women. Ashaval honour’s these women and truly respect their hardship. The achievements of these self-made ladies are truly an inspiration for all the women.

Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina is tennis star she is currently considered India’s No. 1 tennis player in women’s singles. Raina has won 8 singles and 14 doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. In April 2018, she entered the top 200 singles rankings, becoming only the fifth player representing India to achieve this feat. At present, she is supported by the Sports Authority of Gujarat and is also employed with ONGC.

Aditi Gupta

Aditi Gupta is a social entrepreneur and a TED speaker. She and her husband co-founded Menstrupedia comic a fun, colourful and accessible guide to menstruation. She had the distinct honour of being on the Forbes India 30 Under 30 in 2014. She has been featured in Time, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, CNBC, BBC among many others. In 2018, she was named as ‘Business Today Most Powerful Women in Impact’

India’s first female to take part in Formula Racing in India, rookie champion. She is an outstanding performer, public speaker and happens to be Brand Ambassador for Vadodara International Marathon. She has inspired many to break the pattern for gender discrimination and earned huge respect.

Ela Bhatt

Meet Ela Bhatt, She is an Activist, Cooperative organizer and Gandhian. In the year 1972, she founded Self- Employed Women’s Association of India and named it SEWA. She took initiative for equality for girls and women’s and also protest against child marriage. She has inspired many of us by inspiring us with Social Work.

About Sewa foundation: It is an organisation for poor, self-employed women workers. These are women who earn a living through their own labour or small businesses. The main goals are to organise women workers for full employment. Full employment means employment whereby workers obtain work security, income security, food security and social security (at least health care, child care and shelter).

Author, Journalist, Screenwriter from Ahmedabad, writing. Youth icon and inspiration too many of the women’s- face of Gujarati Literature. So far she has written 56 books which include essays, short stories and novels. She is also known for writing dialogues and scripts of soap operas and films. She even writes columns in several publications and hosts radio show.

Aishwarya Majmudar a popular singer from Ahmedabad. She gained popularity after winning the 2007-2008 musical reality show Star Voice of India when she was just 15 years old. Achieving this great success at this young is truly amazing. She has sung many popular songs from movies like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Luv ni Bhavaye, Shiva, GujjuBhai – Most Wanted and many others.

Popularly known as “Daya” of “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma” fame Disha Vakani is a truly inspiring and hardworking lady of India. She is recognised for her splendid performance for the role of “Dayaben” in SAB TV’s sitcom “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah” since 2008. She has won many hearts of all the age group that is from kids to elderly people.

Disha Vakani started her career as a stage actress in Gujarati theatre like Kamal Patel v/s Dhamal Patel and Lali Lila. She has appeared in supporting roles in Hindi films like Devdas (2002) and Jodhaa Akbar (2008). She has played the lead role of Daya Jethalal Gada  She went on the maternity leave in November 2017 and has not returned to the show since.
